Japanese crude stainless steel and foshan market quotations
According to statistics, the stainless steel inventory totaled 157,791 tonnes in Chinese Foshan market in end of March 2012, decreasing by 6.04% from a half month earlier
Among them, 67,546 tonnes were cold rolled stainless steel products, dropping by 8.91% and 90,245 tonnes were hot rolled stainless steel bar products, down by 3.77%.
For CR stainless steel, 17,264 tonnes were 200 grade products, falling by 13.56%; 37,861 tonnes were 300 grade materials, down by 7.96% and 12,421 tonnes were 400 grade products, dipping by 4.81%.
For HR stainless steel, 15,258 tonnes were 200 grade products, down by 2.89%; 70,744 tonnes were 300 grade materials, decreasing by 3.82% and 4,243 tonnes were 400 grade products, dipping by 5.98%.
TEX reported that crude stainless steel production in February 2012 by the 7 major Japanese stainless steel mills was 281,560 tonnes, only marginally down from January 2012. Although there were some ups and downs by mill among the seven, total monthly production of February 2012 was unchanged from January 2012.
The outlook of demand for stainless steel during the second calendar quarter (April to June) of 2012 is forecasted healthy both in the domestic market and for the exports, except a possibility of short slump in demand from automobile industry before the model changes scheduled during the quarter.
Exports of SUS products increased by 37.6% from January 2012, sustaining the firm February 2012 output, although yen was kept strong against USA dollars at almost the same level as it was in January 2012 until mid February 2012.
