Magnetic Property and Stainless Steel
Generally speaking, the austenitic stainless steel (represented by 304) is no magnetic, but also may have weak magnetism,
while ferrite (mainly 430, 409 l, 439, and 445 nf, etc.) and martensite (represented by 410) are generally with magnetism.
There are some Stainless steel (such as 304) classified as "non-
magnetic stainless steel" refers to the magnetic index falls below a certain value, that is to say, generallystainless steel are
more or less with certain magnetism.
In addition, the above mentioned austenite is non-
magnetic or weak magnetic while ferrite and martensite is magnetic, due to improper smelting composition segregation
or heat treatment, it will cause the austenitic 304 stainless steel containing a small amount of martensite and ferrite
organization, so it will be with weak magnetism .In addition, the organization structure of 304 stainless steel material
will be changed to martensitic transformation after cold working.
From the development prospects of stainless steel, 400 stainless steel replacing 300 series is the trend of The Times.
While 200 series materials is facing many difficulties because of scrap recycling, if increase the use of the 201 stainles
steel, it will not be conducive to the sustainable development of the whole stainless steel industry, so now there
are many foresight large enterprises have to say no to 200 series, and will be looking for more potential of 400 series stainless
steel.
