A high performance nickel-based alloy Incoloy-825®

A high performance nickel-based alloy Incoloy-825®
Incoloy-825® is a high-performance nickel-based alloy with excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical strength. The following is a detailed introduction to it:

1. Main characteristics
Corrosion resistance: Incoloy-825® alloy exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in various media, including organic acids such as sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, and nitric acid, as well as alkali metal solutions such as sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide. In addition, it also has good resistance to stress corrosion, pitting corrosion, and crevice corrosion caused by chlorides.
High temperature stability: The alloy can still maintain stable structure and performance at high temperatures, and is suitable for work in high temperature environments. Its operating temperature can be as high as 550°C.
Good toughness: Whether at room temperature or at high temperature, Incoloy-825® alloy can maintain good toughness.
Formability and weldability: Incoloy-825® alloy has good formability and weldability, and is suitable for various processing operations, including cold working and hot working. At the same time, it can be processed by a variety of welding techniques, and the mechanical properties after welding change little.
2. Chemical composition
The main chemical composition of Incoloy-825® includes:

Nickel (Ni): 38%-46%
Chromium (Cr): 19.5%-23.5%
Iron (Fe): Balance
Carbon (C): Maximum 0.05%
Manganese (Mn): Maximum 1.00%
Silicon (Si): Maximum 0.5%
Copper (Cu): 1.5%-3.0%
Molybdenum (Mo): 2.5%-3.5%
Titanium (Ti): 0.6%-1.2%
Phosphorus (P): Maximum 0.03%
The ratio of these components gives Incoloy-825® excellent corrosion resistance.

3. Mechanical properties
The minimum mechanical properties of Incoloy-825® at room temperature are as follows:

Tensile strength (Rm): 550 N/mm²
Yield strength (RP0.2): 220 N/mm²
4. Heat treatment
The heat treatment of Incoloy-825® mainly includes solution treatment and stabilization treatment. The temperature range of solution treatment is 1150-900℃, and the cooling method can be water quenching or rapid air cooling. Stabilization treatment is usually carried out at 920-980℃ to ensure the best corrosion resistance and suitable crystal structure.

V. Application Fields
Due to its excellent corrosion resistance and high temperature stability, Incoloy-825® has a wide range of applications in many fields, including:

Chemical industry: used to manufacture various corrosion-resistant equipment such as reactors, distillation towers and pipelines.

Oil and gas industry: used to manufacture key equipment such as oil well casings, valves and pipelines.

Power industry: used to manufacture flue gas desulfurization equipment and seawater desalination equipment.

Environmental protection field: widely used in wastewater treatment equipment and waste gas treatment equipment.

Marine engineering: used for seawater cooling heat exchangers, marine product pipeline systems and other equipment.
In addition, Incoloy-825® is also suitable for heating tubes, containers, baskets and chains used in sulfuric acid pickling plants, heat exchangers, evaporators, washing and dipping tubes in phosphoric acid production, and air heat exchangers in petroleum refining.

VI. Welding performance
Incoloy-825® is suitable for welding with the same material or other metals using any traditional welding process, such as tungsten electrode inert gas shielded welding, plasma arc welding, manual sub-arc welding, metal inert gas shielded welding, melting inert gas shielded welding, etc., among which pulse arc welding is the preferred option. During the welding process, it is necessary to carry out in the annealing state, and use a stainless steel wire brush to clean stains, dust and various marks.

In summary, Incoloy-825® has an extremely important position in the engineering field with its excellent performance and wide range of applications.
