440C Stainless Steel Straight Wire
440C stainless steel is a high carbon martensitic stainless with moderate corrosion resistance good strength and the ability to obtain and keep excellent hardness (Rc 60) and wear resistance.
440C stainless steel has a carbon content of C-1.%. This steel has good rust resistance. It is a commonly used stainless steel for imported mass production knives. Its chromium content is up to 16-18%. Quite popular. If heat treated as stainless bearing steel, cryogenic treatment is generally recommended before tempering. Such cryogenic treatment improves the hardness of the steel, increases wear resistance, and dimensional stability. Therefore, the cryogenic treatment of 440C is also often used for tool heat treatment.
The higher hardness and medium abrasion resistance, when grinding, it has the disadvantages of relatively high viscosity and rapid heating. It is recommended to use chrome corundum or microcrystalline corundum for grinding. The annealing temperature of 440C is very low. When heat treatment is performed for tools and bearings, the recommended hardness is HRC57-59. If the cryogenic treatment is performed, the hardness can reach HRC60
